Documentation

The basilar artery.

The basilar artery is one of the three midline arteries of the brain arteries: they are the basilar artery, the arteria communicans anterior and the arteria spinalis anterior. It is origated at the confluence of the left vertebral artery and the right vertebral artery and terminates at the cerebral circle of Willis.

The basilar artery cannot be considered as a branch of the vertebral arteries, because a branch cannot belongs to two arteries. For this reason it is considered as a partonomic child of the vertebrobasilar system, itself a child of the arterial system of brain.
